President's Message
Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Southeast Michigan
2025-2026 Fiscal Year
As our chapter looks ahead to another year of growth and creativity, I’m filled with gratitude for this community, for the relationships we’ve built, and for the opportunity to serve a group of professionals who inspire me every day. One of the things I value most about SMPS is that it connects people who truly understand the unique balance of creativity, strategy, and collaboration that defines marketing and business development in the A/E/C industry.
A strong chapter doesn’t just happen. It’s built through engagement, collaboration, and the collective energy of its members. Every program, conversation, and volunteer effort contributes to the heartbeat of our organization. When members feel connected and valued, they’re empowered to share ideas, exchange insights, and strengthen both their personal and professional networks. That spirit of engagement is what makes SMPS Southeast Michigan not just a chapter, but a community.
During my two years serving as Membership Director, I had the privilege of connecting with many of you and learning what inspires you, what challenges you, and what you value most about being part of SMPS Southeast Michigan. In that role, my focus was on deepening member engagement by encouraging participation in our programs, inspiring more members to volunteer, and enhancing our online presence to reflect the vibrant and creative professionals who make up our chapter. Our goal was to elevate the membership experience by shining a spotlight on what makes us exceptional: our people, our programs, and our shared commitment to learning, connecting, and growing together.
Member engagement is more than attendance or visibility; it is the foundation of a thriving professional organization. When members feel connected, valued, and invested, they are more likely to share ideas, exchange knowledge, and build relationships that strengthen both individual careers and our collective impact as marketers in the A/E/C industry.
This year, I look forward to continuing that momentum and building on the strong foundation we’ve created. Our chapter is entering an exciting phase of growth and reflection as we develop our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan. Together, we’ll explore how to deliver even greater value to our members, foster meaningful connections, and celebrate the essential role that marketing and business development play in shaping the built environment.
My vision is for every member, whether you’ve been with us for years or are brand new, to feel seen, supported, and inspired. Your voice, your ideas, and your participation matter. I invite you to get involved, share your perspective, and make this your community.
Let’s make this a year defined by connection, curiosity, and collaboration; one that reflects the best of who we are as marketers and as people.
Warmly,
Nicollette Cardwell, CPSM
2025-2026 President
