Call for Nominations
SMPS Southeast Michigan is now accepting nominations for positions on the Board of Directors. Nomination of a current SMPS Southeast Michigan member or self-nomination applications is allowed and encouraged. Nominations are due by Tuesday, September 15.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to hold a position on the Board of Directors, the following is required:
- Must be a regular or distinguished life member for at least one year.
- Secretary, Treasurer, and Directors at Large must have served on a committee for at least one year as of the date his/her term on the Board of Directors commences
- President Elect must have served on the board of Directors for at least one year
Term of Office
Terms of office for all positions officially commence January 1 - December 31, 2027; however, new board members will need to participate in planning/transition meetings from November 1 – December 31, 2026.
Current Board members returning to the 2025-2026 Board
- Nicollette Cardwell, CPSM (Wightman) Current President; will become Immediate Past President.
- Samantha Wing (Hobbs+Black Architects) Current President-Elect, will succeed as President.
- Jennifer Wilds, CPSM (Turner Construction) Current Treasurer will resume their position.
Available Board of Director Positions
- President-Elect (3-year term: President-Elect, President, Past President) - Must have served on the Board for one year.
- Secretary (2-year term) - Must have served on a committee for one year.
- Programs Director (1-year term) - Must have served on a committee for one year.
- Membership Director (1-year term) - Must have served on a committee for one year.
- Communications Director (1-year term) - Must have served on a committee for one year.
- Education/Certification Director (1-year term) - Must have served on a committee and have CPSM certification.
- Special Events Director (1-year term) - Must have served on a committee for one year.

Expectations of an SMPS Chapter Board Member
An SMPS Southeast Michigan chapter board member is the face of the chapter. They are responsible for guiding and leading the chapter to ensure members receive value in their membership through education, networking, and engagement in planning & attending chapter events. An SMPS chapter board member:
- Attends and participates in all board meetings
- Provides board reports prior to the board meeting
- Reviews board reports prior to the board meeting
- Oversees, motivates, and mentors all committee members as they carry out their duties and responsibilities
- Implements the chapter’s strategic plan and budget for the new program year
- Attends all/majority of SMPS SE Michigan chapter events
Additionally, an SMPS chapter board member:
- Familiarizes themselves with the SMPS Mission and Vision
- Reads through and understands the SMPS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Philosophy and Policy
- Is aware of the resources provided by HQ for chapter volunteers and effectively promotes and encourages use of these resources with chapter volunteers
- SMPS Chapter Volunteer Calendar
- Volunteer training resources
- All Chapter Leaders Community within MySMPS
Lastly, an SMPS chapter board member adheres to the chapter volunteer Code of Conduct
